Samburu
The Special Five of the Northern Frontier
Samburu National Reserve sits in the dry northern rangelands along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Its landscape of doum palms and rocky hills feels entirely different to the southern parks.
The reserve is known for the Samburu Special Five: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk and the Somali ostrich. Elephant, lion and leopard are all present, and leopard sightings along the river are frequent.
Visits combine well with cultural time among the Samburu community.
